Concrete cracks
Concrete can crack as it cures and ages. A surface crack in a slab is not automatically evidence of settlement. The important questions are whether there is vertical displacement, whether the crack is growing, and whether the surrounding structure shows movement.
Wall and masonry cracks
Diagonal drywall cracks near openings and stair-step cracks through mortar joints can be associated with differential movement. Cracks through individual bricks or wide, offset separations deserve closer attention.
Document before repairing finishes
Before patching, take clear photos and note the date. If cracks reopen after cosmetic repair, that history can help an evaluator understand whether movement is continuing.
Local context: Educational statements about expansive clay, wet/dry soil movement, and common warning signs are consistent with current guidance published for Sugar Land and the greater Houston area. They are general context, not a diagnosis for any individual property.
